Sharmila Hazra
Sharmila Hazra of Newton, Massachusetts passed away at home on June 28, 2020, peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones. Sharmila was born in Kanpur, India, beloved daughter of the late Deleep & Anjali Hazra. The Hazra family moved to Montreal, Canada during Sharmila’s childhood and later settled in Newton where they have been a part of the community for the last four decades. She is survived by her husband Tushar, their cherished daughter Tuleeka, and her younger brother Sanjoy Hazra. Sharmila will be remembered fondly as a dutiful daughter, loving mother, compassionate wife, diligent sister, and loyal friend.
Sharmila’s life was filled with a love for learning and a fondness for everyone she met. With her cheerful, kind, empathetic and inclusive personality Sharmila made innumerable life-long friends. Sharmila graduated from Boston University specializing in health care and finance and was a passionate champion for bringing equity in healthcare delivery through her work at the Dana-Farber as a financial analyst. She was a vocal proponent for fair and progressive healthcare policies through her community and volunteer work. Sharmila was a consummate hostess and loved entertaining friends and family with expertly created Indian and western cuisines. She was deeply spiritual and propagated peaceful equality of all. Sharmila was passionate about inculcating and preserving Bengali traditions and passing the legacy on to future generations and she enthusiastically supported local cultural events.
Sharmila wished to be commemorated with fond memories and a celebration of her life. Her cremation ceremony was completed on June 30, 2020. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Her family thanks everyone for their love and support.
