Obituary – Bimal Kanti Ghose
It is with great sadness that we announce the unfortunate news of the demise of one of our revered stalwarts, our esteemed member, Bimal Kanti Ghose.
Bimal Kanti Ghose, fondly remembered by us as “Bimalda,” passed away on April 28, 2022. He is survived by his wife Bharati Ghose, his sons Dipankar and Subhankar Ghose, his brother Tushar Ghose and Pijush Ghose, his grandson Rohith Ghose and nephews Tanoy Ghose, Dr. Tapas Ghose, Pratik Ghose and grandkids.
Bimal Kanti Ghose was born on July 14, 1941, to Dhirendra Nath and Anupama Ghose in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He was the eldest of three sons. He completed his Master’s degree in Political Science and History from Calcutta University. He pursued a career in journalism with the news organization, Anandabazar Patrika. His true passion, however, was Indian politics. He was the first President of the All-India Congress Party at Calcutta University and had recruited his lifelong friends Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi and Subrata Mukherjee to the Congress Party.
Although he immigrated to the United States, his work for the Congress Party as an adviser and consultant continued as he advised prominent leaders, including Rajiv Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Rahul Gandhi.
After immigrating to the United States in the 1970s, he pursued a career in insurance, ultimately becoming an underwriting manager with a prominent insurance company.
Bimalda was a dedicated husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He loved his family and cherished the fond memories he had with all of them to the very end.
He was always a “people person” and therefore enjoyed the company of his friends and cherished the times he spent with them. Bimalda was also a lifelong member of Prabasi. His work and support for the Indian community and the organization, which began when he first arrived in the United States, remained present.
Although he left all of us, in retrospect, he was able to enjoy and witness all of the notable moments of his life, including the graduation of his sons from college, the marriage of his son, the birth of his grandson, and the graduation of his grandson from high school to college. We will never forget and cherish Bimalda for all of the fond memories with him, and he will always remain in our hearts.
